AI Anxiety Scale (AIAS)

Technology / PsychologyReliability: alpha = 0.933 sample items

About this scale

A 21-item scale measuring four facets of anxiety toward AI: learning, job replacement, sociotechnical blindness, and AI configuration. Each item is rated on a 7-point Likert scale.

Sample item(s)

“I am afraid that AI will replace me at work.”
“Learning to use AI tools makes me nervous.”
“I worry that AI systems will not be able to explain how they make decisions.”

Reliability

Reported internal consistency: alpha = 0.93. As a rule of thumb, Cronbach’s α ≥ .70 is considered acceptable, ≥ .80 good, and ≥ .90 excellent for established measures.

Notes

Critical for HRM research on AI adoption resistance. Higher-order factor model supported.
