Psychology: Social & RelationshipsReliability: Anxiety alpha 0.93; Avoidance alpha 0.943 sample items
About this scale
A 36-item measure of adult attachment along two dimensions: anxiety (fear of abandonment) and avoidance (discomfort with closeness). The most validated dimensional attachment measure.
Sample item(s)
“I worry that romantic partners won't care about me as much as I care about them (anxiety)”
“I prefer not to show how I feel deep down (avoidance)”
“I find it relatively easy to get close to my partner (avoidance, reverse)”
Reliability
Reported internal consistency: Anxiety alpha 0.93; Avoidance alpha 0.94. As a rule of thumb, Cronbach’s α ≥ .70 is considered acceptable, ≥ .80 good, and ≥ .90 excellent for established measures.
Notes
Adapted to workplace contexts (ECR-W) for studying employee–supervisor attachment.
