HEXACO Personality Inventory-Revised (HEXACO-PI-R)
Psychology: PersonalityReliability: alphas 0.77–0.90 across six factors3 sample items
About this scale
A 100-item (or 60-item short form) measure of six personality dimensions: Honesty-Humility, Emotionality, eXtraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Openness. Adds an honesty-humility dimension to the Big Five.
Sample item(s)
“I would never accept a bribe, even if it were very large (honesty-humility)”
“I sometimes can't help worrying about little things (emotionality)”
“I rarely express my opinions in group meetings (extraversion, reverse)”
Reliability
Reported internal consistency: alphas 0.77–0.90 across six factors. As a rule of thumb, Cronbach’s α ≥ .70 is considered acceptable, ≥ .80 good, and ≥ .90 excellent for established measures.
Notes
Free for academic use; preferred over Big Five when honesty-humility is theoretically relevant (e.g., UPB, ethics).
