Honesty-Humility (HEXACO subscale)
Psychology: PersonalityReliability: alpha 0.783 sample items
About this scale
A 16-item subscale of HEXACO measuring honesty-humility — the tendency to be fair, sincere, modest, and unwilling to exploit others. Strongly predicts UPB and counterproductive work behaviours.
Sample item(s)
“I would never accept a bribe, even if it were very large”
“If I want something from a person I dislike, I will act very nicely toward that person to get it (reverse)”
“I think that I am entitled to more respect than the average person is (reverse)”
Reliability
Reported internal consistency: alpha 0.78. As a rule of thumb, Cronbach’s α ≥ .70 is considered acceptable, ≥ .80 good, and ≥ .90 excellent for established measures.
Notes
Use as predictor in ethics and UPB studies.
