Positive Reciprocity Beliefs (Eisenberger, Lynch, Aselage & Rohdieck)
Psychology: Values & BeliefsReliability: alpha 0.893 sample items
About this scale
A multi-item measure of dispositional belief in positive reciprocity — the obligation to return favours and good treatment. Strong moderator in social-exchange research, including UPB.
Sample item(s)
“If someone helps me, I will be more likely to help them in return.”
“I always try to repay favours.”
“If a coworker helps me with a project, I feel obligated to help them in return.”
Reliability
Reported internal consistency: alpha 0.89. As a rule of thumb, Cronbach’s α ≥ .70 is considered acceptable, ≥ .80 good, and ≥ .90 excellent for established measures.
Notes
Pair with negative-reciprocity-norm scale and UPB; reciprocity moderates the OI–UPB link.
