Common questions

Yes. All audio, transcripts, codes, and notes are stored in your browser's IndexedDB on your own device. Nothing is uploaded to a server. If you want to keep your work, use the Save button (JSON export) or QDA Package button to download a backup. Clearing your browser data will erase the project.
Yes, when you're using Chrome or Microsoft Edge. The tool uses the browser's built-in Web Speech API (the same engine that powers Google Voice typing). Accuracy is best in a quiet room with a clear microphone. Safari and Firefox don't expose this API — in those browsers you can still record audio and either type the transcript manually or import a VTT / SRT / TXT file.
Click QDA Package in the top toolbar — you'll get a zip containing: transcripts/*.txt, audio/*, tables/codebook.csv, tables/document-metadata.csv, tables/coded-extracts.csv, and memos/*.md. In NVivo, import the TXT files as Files and the CSV as a Classification Sheet. In ATLAS.ti and MAXQDA, the TXT files become Documents and the CSV is imported as Document Variables. Full README is included in the package.

We treat tool transparency as part of methodological rigour — the tool's analysis logic (theme dictionaries, sentiment lists, code suggestions) is fully visible in the source code so you can describe it accurately in your methods section.
The automatic codes and themes are a first-pass aid, not final findings. The tool is transparent about how it generates them: code suggestions come from word-frequency analysis (after stop-word removal), themes from five built-in dictionary lenses, and quotes from sentence-level scoring. Treat these as a starting point — review every suggestion, refine your codebook by hand, and document your audit trail (which the tool keeps automatically). For inter-coder reliability, export the codebook CSV and have a second coder apply it independently, then compute Cohen's kappa externally.
Use the Save button to download a project JSON file. Send the JSON to your co-author. They open the tool, click Open, and select the file — their browser will receive your interviews, transcripts, codes, and notes. Audio files are not included in JSON (they're large); for audio, use the QDA Package export instead.
