Career Plateau (Bardwick)

HR & WorkReliability: alpha 0.853 sample items

About this scale

A multi-item measure of career plateau — perception of stalled career advancement. Two facets: hierarchical (no upward movement) and content (lack of new challenges).

Sample item(s)

“The likelihood that I will be promoted in the near future is low (hierarchical)”
“I find my work routine and unchallenging (content)”
“I feel my career has stagnated”

Reliability

Reported internal consistency: alpha 0.85. As a rule of thumb, Cronbach’s α ≥ .70 is considered acceptable, ≥ .80 good, and ≥ .90 excellent for established measures.

Notes

Pair with career success and plateau-coping research.
