Faking Detection (Burns & Christiansen)

HR & WorkReliability: method-level3 sample items

About this scale

A method using item-response analysis to detect socially desirable responding/faking — comparing observed response patterns to expected patterns under honest responding.

Sample item(s)

“IRT-based fit statistics (e.g., person fit Zh)”
“Comparison of within-person variance to expected”
“Pattern-matching against known faker profiles”

Reliability

Reported internal consistency: method-level. As a rule of thumb, Cronbach’s α ≥ .70 is considered acceptable, ≥ .80 good, and ≥ .90 excellent for established measures.

Notes

Method for selection-context faking detection.
