Heterotrait-Monotrait Ratio (HTMT)
HR & WorkReliability: statistical estimator4 sample items
About this scale
A modern discriminant-validity estimator: ratio of cross-construct correlations to within-construct correlations. HTMT < 0.85 (conservative) or < 0.90 (liberal) supports discriminant validity.
Sample item(s)
“Compute average within-construct correlations”
“Compute average between-construct correlations”
“HTMT = between / sqrt(within1 × within2)”
“< 0.85 supports discriminant validity”
Reliability
Reported internal consistency: statistical estimator. As a rule of thumb, Cronbach’s α ≥ .70 is considered acceptable, ≥ .80 good, and ≥ .90 excellent for established measures.
Notes
Modern alternative to Fornell-Larcker.
