High-Performance Work Systems (HPWS) Perceptions

HR & WorkReliability: alpha 0.85–0.933 sample items

About this scale

A multi-item measure of employees' or HR managers' perceptions of bundled HR practices that drive high performance: selective hiring, extensive training, performance-contingent pay, internal promotion, employment security, participation, and information sharing.

Sample item(s)

“Great effort is taken to select the right person for each job.”
“Employees in this organization receive ongoing training.”
“Pay raises are based on job performance.”

Reliability

Reported internal consistency: alpha 0.85–0.93. As a rule of thumb, Cronbach’s α ≥ .70 is considered acceptable, ≥ .80 good, and ≥ .90 excellent for established measures.

Notes

Combes et al. (2006) and Posthuma et al. (2013) provide canonical HPWS taxonomies.
