Intragroup Conflict Scale (Jehn)
HR & WorkReliability: Task alpha 0.87; Relationship alpha 0.92; Process alpha 0.893 sample items
About this scale
A 9-item measure of three types of intragroup conflict: task conflict (about ideas), relationship conflict (interpersonal), and process conflict (about how to do tasks). Foundational measure in team-conflict research.
Sample item(s)
“How much conflict of ideas is there in your work group? (task)”
“How much friction is there among members in your work group? (relationship)”
“How often are there disagreements about who should do what in your work group? (process)”
Reliability
Reported internal consistency: Task alpha 0.87; Relationship alpha 0.92; Process alpha 0.89. As a rule of thumb, Cronbach’s α ≥ .70 is considered acceptable, ≥ .80 good, and ≥ .90 excellent for established measures.
Notes
Most cited team-conflict measure. Process-conflict subscale added in Jehn & Mannix (2001).
