Job Diagnostic Survey-Short (JDS-S)
HR & WorkReliability: alphas 0.62–0.76 across 5 core dimensions3 sample items
About this scale
A short version of the Job Diagnostic Survey measuring the five core job dimensions: skill variety, task identity, task significance, autonomy, and feedback.
Sample item(s)
“The job requires me to use a number of complex or high-level skills (variety)”
“The job is arranged so that I can do an entire piece of work from beginning to end (identity)”
“The job itself provides clues about whether or not I am performing well (feedback)”
Reliability
Reported internal consistency: alphas 0.62–0.76 across 5 core dimensions. As a rule of thumb, Cronbach’s α ≥ .70 is considered acceptable, ≥ .80 good, and ≥ .90 excellent for established measures.
