Work-Related Flow Inventory (WOLF, Bakker)
HR & WorkReliability: Absorption alpha 0.79; Work enjoyment alpha 0.92; Intrinsic motivation alpha 0.823 sample items
About this scale
A 13-item measure of flow at work — a short-term peak experience of absorption, work enjoyment, and intrinsic motivation. Distinct from engagement, which is more enduring.
Sample item(s)
“When I'm working, I forget everything else around me (absorption)”
“I do my work with a lot of enjoyment (enjoyment)”
“I get my motivation from the work itself, and not from the reward for it (intrinsic motivation)”
Reliability
Reported internal consistency: Absorption alpha 0.79; Work enjoyment alpha 0.92; Intrinsic motivation alpha 0.82. As a rule of thumb, Cronbach’s α ≥ .70 is considered acceptable, ≥ .80 good, and ≥ .90 excellent for established measures.
Notes
Useful for studying short-term peak performance episodes.
